RAISING FUNDS FOR: Nalgona Positivity Pride

GloriaContinuing our series of joint fundraisers with bad-ass groups in the community, we will be splitting the proceeds of the August 7 OUTspoken Sessions with Nalgona Positivity Pride.

Nalgona Positivity is a Xicana-Brown*-Indigenous body positive site and project focused in the Los Angeles area. Nalgona Positivity Pride was started by 24-year old Gloria with the help of many friends and family. The focus is on breaking down the dominating stereotypes of eating disorders and introducing the idea of what decolonizing the body is. Through social media and providing education in communities of color, NPP has been able to spread the word on the harms of past and present colonialism and create space for brown chubbiness.

jadenJaden is a Black boi, a poet, an activist, a writer, a collector of stories. He studied Psychology at USC to try and understand his trauma, and ended up with more questions. He believes in beauty of vulnerability and the strength in the stories our bodies hold. You can usually find him with his notebook in his hand and a shy smile gracing his lips.

rajahMy name is Rajah Jones and I am a 35 year old Trans Woman of Color. I am a community activist as part of the core collective of TFFED(Trans Folx Fighting Eating Disorders), chair of the trans ministry group at church, and a facilitator for transformLA with GJLA. I am also a writer which includes plays, poetry, and rap. I’ve been writing since I was 12 years old. It has been my passion and it’s something I’m going to put together as an album in the near future.

Founded in July 2009, OUTspoken Sessions is an open mic and safe space for LGBTQ (and ally) folks. Originally an open mic for youth 19 and under, Equal Action saw a need for a safe multi-generational space – the space is still affirming of and respectful of youth and avoids tokenism.

Equal Action will be your hosts. We welcome all skill levels. There is no competition here. First timers welcome, you will be celebrated and always receive loving energy from your audience.

Arrive by 6:30pm to sign up for the open mic.
